Fool Me Twice, Shame on Me: Celebs Who Remarried the Same Person

Whenever a celebrity gets hitched, they tend to do it big. They find the most extravagant location and invite almost everyone under the sun. Some celebrities love weddings so much that they make a habit of it. While some Hollywood stars rack up their number of weddings by marrying anyone who catches their eye, others do it by marrying the same person twice.

That’s right, even celebrities go back to their exes. When it comes to love, the heart wants what the heart wants. But which stars married the same person twice? And which ones made their second marriage stick?

We’ve put together a list of Hollywood stars who came crawling back to their exes and married the same person twice. Let’s check it out!

Pamela Anderson and Rick Salomon

The Baywatch actress has a bad habit of going back to her exes (we’re looking at you, Tommy Lee!), but she only married one of her ex-boyfriends twice. Anderson married her third husband, professional poker player Rick Salomon, back in 2007, but the marriage didn’t last long. Anderson had the marriage annulled in 2008, citing fraud, only to wed him again in 2014.

Just like their first marriage, their second one didn’t last for too long. The couple divorced the following year again. So what was she thinking? “It’s like when you put something back in the fridge that’s not good,” Anderson explained to Ellen DeGeneres. “It’s not gonna be good the second time. When you go in there, I mean. You go, ‘Oh, that’s bad. Let me try that again!’”

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton

Elizabeth Taylor and Richard Burton fell madly in love on the set of Cleopatra in 1963. Their relationship was a huge scandal, as both were married to other people at the time. The couple was even condemned by the Vatican! But nothing could keep these two apart, and the couple wed the in March the following year.

Both Taylor and Burton, however, were heavy drinkers, and they would fight often. In 1974, after a decade of marriage, the couple divorced, only to remarry in 1975. Sadly, the marriage dissolved in less than a year. Although the marriage didn’t work, Burton was the love of Taylor’s life. “I was still madly in love with him the day he died. I think he still loved me, too,” she told Vogue after his death.

Larry King and Alene Akins

Larry King may have married seven different women, but Alene Akins seemed to have a larger piece of his heart than the rest. The talk show host married Akins, a one-time Playboy Bunny, and his third wife, in 1961 at one of the adult magazine’s nightclubs. King adopted her son Andy in 1962, but the romance was short-lived.

The talk show host divorced her the following year so he could marry Mickey Stuphin. But in 1967, Larry came crawling back to Akins, and the couple got married for a second time. The couple had a daughter named Chaia before getting divorced a second time in 1972. Sadly, King is the only one still alive. His ex-wife passed away in 2017, and Andy and Chaia died in 2020, just a few weeks apart.

Eminem and Kimberly Scott

The Detroit rapper met Kimberly Scott when the two were just teenagers. Although they were young, they were inseparable. Scott gave birth to the couple’s daughter, Hallie Jade, in 1995, and the couple eventually wed four years later. However, we all know how this relationship ends.

Eminem and Scott had a very toxic relationship, so much so that the rapper recorded a song where he imagined his wife’s death. This song was allegedly the straw that broke the proverbial camel’s back, and Eminem filed for divorce in 2001. Somehow the couple made up and remarried in 2006. The union didn’t last very long, and three months after their second wedding, Eminem and Kim have already divorced again.

Richard Pryor and Flynn Belaine, and then Jennifer Lee!

Like many people in Hollywood, comedian Richard Pryor walked down the aisle many times. He even married two different women twice! It seems like the comedian just couldn’t make up his mind. It all started in 1981 when he married actress and interior designer Jennifer Lee, whom he had met after hiring her to decorate his house.

But the couple divorced the following year because of his drug addiction. He then went on to marry aspiring actress Flynn Belaine in 1986 but divorced her two months into the marriage. Belaine and Pryor then remarried in 1990 only to divorce the following year. Pryor then went back to Lee a few weeks later, and the couple remained married until he died in 2005. Whew! That was a mouthful!

Barbara Walters and Merv Adelson

Barbara Walters married her third (and technically fourth) husband, Merv Adelson, in 1981 after meeting on a blind date. At the time, he was the CEO of Lorimar Television and was raking in a fortune. The couple, however, divorced in 1984, only to remarry two years later. The couple’s reunion sadly didn’t last, and they parted ways in 1992.

After their divorce, Adelson took a hard hit financially. He invested in several Internet startups in the early ‘90s, but after the dot com bubble burst in 2000, he lost everything. “He was a kind, funny, thoughtful man,” Walters told Vanity Fair. “Would things have worked out differently for Merv if we had stayed together? I don’t know. Probably not.”

Natalie Wood and Robert Wagner

The West Side Story actress had a childhood crush on actor Robert Wagner and eventually went on a date with him for her 18th birthday. But the date wasn’t by mere chance. Wood was on the cusp of becoming a famous actress, but she needed more publicity. So her studio set them up, but the attraction was real.

The couple married in 1957, after the actor proposed by putting a pear-shaped diamond ring in her champagne glass, only to divorce in 1962. Wood then went on to marry producer Richard Gregson, but after the pair got divorced, she went back to Wagner. The couple remarried in 1972 until her untimely and mysterious death in 1981.

Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson

Things were a little bit different in the ‘70s than they were today. Actors Melanie Griffith and Don Johnson first met when they were only 14 and 22 years old, and they were already living together a year later. Johnson proposed to Griffith on her 18th birthday, and the pair got hitched in 1976. The union was short-lived, and the pair divorced six months later.

But in 1988, Johnson proposed to Griffith for the second time, and their daughter Dakota was born the following year. The couple remarried, only to divorce for the second time in 1994, citing irreconcilable differences. Although the couple remains separated to this day, they still share a strong bond.

Elliott Gould and Jennifer Bogart

Elliott Gould’s first love was Barbara Streisand, but his true love was Jennifer Bogart. After ending his nine-year marriage to Streisand, the actor went on to marry Bogart in 1973, after having two children out of wedlock. Their relationship was short-lived, and the couple divorced two years later, only to remarry in 1978.

But unlike their first marriage, the couple remained married for 11 years. Even though the couple isn’t married or living together, Gould often refers to Bogart as his wife. So what drew the actor to his ex-wife not once, but twice? “Jenny is the best fighter I’ve ever met,” Gould explained, according to The Independent. “She fights for everything. She fights for life.”

Judge Judy and Jerry Sheindlin

Judge Judy is currently on her second marriage to judge Jerry Sheindlin. The pair first got hitched in 1977 but divorced after 1990. Their first marriage and divorce weren’t exactly a walk in the park. “It was war,” the television judge told Closer magazine. “I had to face some hard truths.” The couple reportedly divorced because of the stress Judy was going through after losing her father.

But the divorce was so painful that the couple realized that they couldn’t be apart for another day. After a year of separation, the couple wed for the second time and have remained happily married ever since. I guess the heart wants what the heart wants.

Rodney Dangerfield and Joyce Indig

Stand-up comedian Rodney Dangerfield married Joyce Indig twice. The pair met when Dangerfield was 30 years old and still struggling to make it as a comedian. After the couple married in 1951, Dangerfield actually left the entertainment industry in search of more money. He became an aluminum siding salesman, and Indig gave birth to the couple’s first child.

But after battling clinical depression for years, the marriage became too much for Dangerfield, and the couple divorced in 1961. However, the divorce didn’t last, and the couple reunited less than a year later, marrying for the second time in 1963. Indig gave birth to their second child, but it wasn’t enough to save the marriage. The pair divorced permanently in 1970.

Ben Stein and Alexandra Denman

The political speechwriter turned actor, married only one woman in his life. Ben Stein first married entertainment lawyer Alexandra Denman in 1986, but things didn’t quite work out, and the pair divorced in 1974. But after three years apart, the old flames found their way back to each other again and remarried.

When asked what made the couple get back together again, Denman said, “Ben pursued me again and won me all over again. He’s very persistent.” Well, this time, the marriage stuck, and the two have been together ever since. The couple share one son, Tom, who was born after the two reconciled. Stein and Denman also have a few properties together, including houses in Beverly Hills, Malibu, and Sandpoint, Idaho.

Marie Osmond and Stephen Craig

Actress and singer Marie Osmond first met Stephen Craig when she was a teenager, and the pair wed when she was only 22 years old. With over 4,000 guests, the 1982 wedding was the party of the year. After giving birth to her son, Osmond found herself at a crossroads between her career and her family, and she eventually filed for divorce in 1985.

The entertainer moved on with music producer Brian Blosil the following year and went on to have two biological children and five adopted. When Osmond and Blosil announced their divorce in 2007, the singer said that she never wanted to be married again. But faith had another plan in mind. Osmond and Craig unexpectedly reconnected through their son and remarried in 2011. Fast-forward to today, and the couple are still going strong.

Jean-Claude Van Damme and Gladys Portugues

Already married and divorced twice, actor Jean-Claude Van Damme first fell for former bodybuilder Gladys Portuges, after meeting her at a photoshoot. The two began to date and eventually married in 1987. After having two children, however, the couple just couldn’t seem to make it work and eventually divorced in 1992.

The actor moved on to his fourth marriage with Darcy LaPier, but cheated on her with actress Kylie Minogue, while LaPier was pregnant with his child. Unsurprisingly, the marriage dissolved after a year, and he began spending more time with his third ex-wife. The couple remarried in 1999, and although they’ve had their ups and downs, they are still married to this day.

Dionne Warwick and William Elliott

Only one man held Dionne Warwick’s heart, and that was actor and drummer William Elliott. The pair first wed in 1966 but divorced in May following year. But nothing could keep these two lovebirds apart, and by August of the same year, the pair remarried in Milan, Italy. Warwick gave birth to two sons, David and Damon, but her marriage to Elliott began to crumble.

The couple separated and were granted a divorce in 1975. “I was the breadwinner. The male ego is a fragile thing. It’s hard when the woman is the breadwinner,” Warwick told reporters after her divorce. “All my life, the only man who ever took care of me financially was my father. I have always taken care of myself.”

NeNe and Gregg Leakes

Real Housewives of Atlanta star NeNe Leakes first met Gregg in 1996 while working as an exotic dancer. Nene left her job and married Gregg the following year. But as she rose to fame as a reality star, the marriage began to crumble. The pair eventually divorced in 2011, but the divorce didn’t last for long. The following year, NeNe and Greg began seeing each other.

Then on January 1, 2013, Gregg asked her to marry him again. The couple remarried that June and even though they almost got divorced from the stress and complications of Gregg’s cancer diagnosis, Nene and Greg remain stronger today than ever. As of 2019, Gregg is cancer-free, and the couple are back on track.

Sinbad and Meredith Adkins

Comedian David Adkins, aka Sinbad, married Meredith Adkins in 1985, but they divorced after six years and then remarried after a ten-year separation. When asked about why the duo decided to reconcile, he says that a lot of things can happen during a decade-long divorce.

“The difference is when you come back in, you kind of hope the things that still mean something to you still mean something to you,” Sinbad told reporters. “Those things you fought about, you realize they don’t mean that much. I’ll tell you this philosophy: If it ain’t worth breaking up over, let it go.” Well, the comedian’s philosophy seems to work because the couple is still going strong.

Lana Turner and Steve Crane

The pin-up model and actress was married more than a few times, but the only man she gave a second chance to was Steve Crane. The pair first married in 1942, but the union was short-lived. Crane somehow forgot to tell Turner that he still hadn’t divorced his first wife, Carol Ann Kurtz. Turner annulled the marriage, but when she found out she was pregnant with Crane’s baby, the pair reunited.

Turner and Crane remarried in March 1943, and their Daughter Cheryl was born in July. The couple couldn’t seem to make their marriage work and eventually divorced in 1944. Cheryl made headlines in 1958 when she killed her mother’s lover, mobster Johnny Stompanato when she was only 14 years old.

Paul Hogan and Noelene Edwards

Crocodile Dundee star, Paul Hogan, married his first wife, Noelene Edwards, twice. The pair first met while Hogan was working as a lifeguard at the local pool. They got married for the first time in 1958, but it came to an end in 1981. The divorce was short-lived, and the couple remarried less than a year later.

But the second marriage came to a screeching halt in 1986, with what the media called Australia’s ugliest celebrity divorce. “I was a massive flirt, I liked her, and she liked me, and we got married,” the actor said. Hogan went on to marry his Crocodile Dundee co-star, Linda Kozlowski, in 1990. Kozlowski filed for divorce in 2013, citing irreconcilable differences.

While some celebrities found love with their exs, others found love with partners significantly older than them. But hey, age is just a number, right? Let’s check out celeb couples with a large age gap!
